June 21, 2018, City Council Regular Meeting
Title
7. Motion to Amend the Zoning Ordinance Regarding the Mid-City Design Review Process (Petitioner: Planning Commission)
Strategic Priority
Neighborhood Revitalization
Description

This zoning hearing was continued from the City Council meetings of April 26 and May 24. Per the request of City Council, MPC staff met with the Mid City Neighborhood Association and interested stakeholders on the proposed ordinance revisions several times. The attached draft reflects the consensus on the revised changes.

This MPC staff-initiated petition (File No. 18-001150-ZA) revises the Mid-City design review process to:

  • Require that new construction be reviewed by the Planning Commission rather than the Design Administrator
  • Gives the Planning Commission the authority to waiver measurable design and development standards by up to 20% when visually compatible
  • Implement a demolition review process that is consistent with the demolition review process in the Victorian District.

On April 3, 2018, the Planning Commission voted to recommend approval of the petition to amend the zoning ordinance.
