Description

Recommend approval for generator maintenance for Stormwater Management to Cummins Power South in the amount of $105,060 and Yancey Caterpillar in the amount of $26,045.

The contracts are for Cummins and Yancey Caterpillar generators throughout the City of Savannah. The Department recommends maintenance by factory-authorized service centers and technicians for each brand of generator. The contracts will address load bank tests on all generators once per year to ensure generators are performing as intended under full electrical load of the Stormwater Management Division.

Generator maintenance at stormwater pump stations around the City is critical and essential to the operations of drainage and flood mitigation. When the electric service goes out in a storm, the generators at these pump stations are the only way to maintain back-up power for continuous operations of these pumps in the event of an emergency. Routine maintenance inspections on each system ensures that the systems are always in a ready state.

The contracts are sole source because Cummins and Yancey Caterpillar are the manufacturers of existing equipment, and has the only manufacturer-certified technicians. The specified service technicians will provide critical maintenance to backup generators.

Recommend approval of contract in the amount up to $131,105.
