July 6, 2017 City Council Regular Meeting (Amended July 5, 2017)
Title
Motion to Procure Playground Equipment from GameTime (Event No 5229)
Description

Recommend approval to procure replacement playground equipment and installation services from GameTime in the amount of $40,837.54. The playground equipment will be used by the Buildings & Grounds Department to replace equipment that was damaged by Hurricane Matthew at River's End Park.

These parts and installation services are being purchased through the cooperative bid contract. This is a sole source because GameTime is the only provider of replacement parts for its proprietary playground equipment. The City is unable to purchase the parts and install them in-house or bid out installation because doing so would void the equipment’s warranty. The method of procurement used for this purchase was a request for proposal issued by Charlotte-Mecklenburg County, NC as part of the U.S. Communities Government Purchasing Alliance. Cooperative purchasing is authorized as an appropriate procurement method in Division 10 Section 4-4152 of the City of Savannah’s Purchasing Ordinance.

River's End Park is located at 8714 Hurst Avenue in District 4.This area was hit particularly hard by Hurricane Matthew and the park was no exception. Numerous trees were blown down, which extensively damaged the play unit designed for 2-5-year-olds. The park’s swing set was also completely destroyed.
