The Savannah Airport Commission recommends approval to purchase a runway deice trailer system from Wausau Equipment Company, Inc., in the amount of $54,500.00. Although snow and ice storms are rare in our region, the airport staff prefers resources and equipment on hand in the event of a snow or ice storm. During Winter Storm Grayson, staff rented equipment to remove the ice from the runways. Roadways were treated with a specialized deicing chemical.

The recommended runway deicer trailer system includes features such as a 10 ft. to 50 ft. boom width, 250 gallons – 3,000-gallon tank capacity, and product pump capacity of 300 gallons per minute. This self-contained trailer unit is capable of operating under varying weather conditions, meets all FAA 503C specification requirements for airfield deicing equipment, which staff will utilize during winter operations. Bids were solicited through the City of Savannah Purchasing Department.
