21. Motion to Approve Contract Modification No. 1 for Civic Center Ceiling Demolition and Restoration to Johnson-Laux Construction, LLC (Event No. 5969)
Strategic Priority
Infrastructure
Description

Notification of Contract Modification No. 1 of a ceiling demolition and restoration contract with Johnson-Laux Construction, LLC in the amount of $1,821.75. These services were used by the Civic Center to restore a failing ceiling on the second floor of the facility. The support system in the ceiling failed, causing a dip in the ceiling. The dip was exacerbated by a sprinkler pipe bursting from the pressure of the dipping ceiling.

This was an emergency because the structural integrity of the facility was compromised. Johnson-Laux LLC was selected because it was the first available vendor to respond immediately and it holds the state job-order contract. These additional services are needed to replace two sprinkler heads that were required to be replaced per the Fire Inspector’s Office during the structural repairs.

This emergency procurement was originally approved by Council on March 29,2018 in the amount of $496,189.83. The total amount of this contract, including this modification, to date is $498,011.58.
