Description

Recommend approval of a contract to procure 317 IGel Thin Client Licenses from Layer3 Communications, LLC in the amount of $54,016.80

The iGel application will allow us to re-purpose outdated PC’s to provide cloud-based workspaces, which will extend the life of existing hardware, reduce carbon footprint, save capital expenditure, improve endpoint security and reduce operational costs. The iGel licenses will utilize hard drives stored on a server or existing data centers through a virtual desktop infrastructure.

The licenses will be utilized in the Community Centers as well as the Coastal Worksource Office and Work Centers. This will allow us to end the renewal for $22,000 for the DeeP Freeze Software. This will also allow the City's IT Department to remove most public-facing computers from the City's network, providing greater security for the network and reducing the risk of potential malware attacks.

The contract was competitively bid and awarded to Layer3 Communications, LLC through the Savannah First Initiative.
