Title
Motion to Approve Intergovernmental Agreement for Adjustment of 20-inch-Diameter Water Main and 12-inch-diameter Force Main on Dean Forest Road
Description

Along Dean Forest Road, the Georgia Department of Transportation work begins at the intersection of Dean Forest Road and Southbridge Boulevard and ends at the intersection of Dean Forest Road and Pine Meadow Drive for a total distance of 0.8 miles. The work includes construction of a diverging diamond interchange, replacing the Dean Forest Bridge over I-16, adjusted ramp lengths, additional turn lanes at the ramp signals, roadway lighting, and replacement of existing signals at the ramps. The project also includes a 10-foot shared use path to be constructed on one side of Dean Forest Road within the project limits and a 5-foot sidewalk on the opposite side of Dean Forest Road.

This project has been designated as a Public Interest Determination (PID) project. Per Official Code of Georgia Annotated (OCGA) 32-6-170 & 171 under Senate Bill 19, when it is in the best interest of the public, the Department is authorized to pay or participate in the payment of the cost of removing, relocating, or making necessary adjustment of the utilities facilities in order to expedite the staging of an active construction project as long as the facilities are included as part of the contract between the Department and the Department’s roadway contractor.

To start this process, an executed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will need to be completed to establish the procedures for incorporating in the roadway contract the removing, relocating, or other necessary adjustments of the utility facilities.
