Title
65. Motion to Amend the Alcoholic Beverage Ordinance to Allow the Sale of Alcohol by the Package on Thanksgiving and Christmas
Strategic Priority
Good Government
Description

The City of Savannah's Alcoholic Beverage Ordinance currently prohibits package stores and ancillary retail package stores from selling alcohol by the package on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. This was once a provision of State code as well, but that provision was eliminated during amendments made by the Legislature in 2012.

This proposed amendment would bring the Savannah Alcoholic Beverage Ordinance in line with State code by eliminating the following sentence from Section 6-1211 (b): "No Class D or E licensee may sell alcoholic beverages at any time on Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day."

The remainder of Section 6-1211 (b) will be left intact, and sets limitations on sales of alcohol at Class D-Package Stores and Class E-Ancillary Retail Package Stores to the following:

  • Class D licensees may not sell distilled spirits except between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 11:45 p.m. Monday through Saturday and between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Sundays.
  • Class D and E licensees may not sell malt beverages or wine between the hours of 11:45 p.m. Saturday and 12:30 p.m. Sunday or between the hours of 11:30 p.m. Sunday and 8:00 a.m. Monday.

This amendment would go into effect immediately if approved.
