Description

This contract is for the Placentia Canal drainage improvements with Platinum Paving in the amount of $2,570,958. The Stormwater Department will use these services to construct a stormwater detention pond and upgrade stormwater conveyance on 24 City Owned FEMA lots along Bonnie Drive, Vicksburg Drive, and Laroche Court between Vicksburg Drive and Derenne Avenue. The approximate 2-acre pond is designed to be both visually appealing and have good water quality. The pond will have a 10-foot wide 1 to 2 feet deep shallow water bench along the edge, which slopes down to 5 feet deep in the middle. The pond will be bordered by an 8-foot wide gravel path.

In coordination with Greenscapes, the pond has been designed to avoid disturbing several specimen trees. In addition to the pond, the project will include the demolition and removal of abandoned water lines and undersized storm drains. Sanitary sewer will be rerouted around the pond. The construction will include 84 linear feet of 4x4’ box culvert across Derenne Avenue and 79 linear feet of 4x3’ box culvert across Vicksburg Drive with concrete wing walls and aprons. The Vicksburg culvert crossing must be complete and open to traffic before closing Derenne Avenue. Riprap and concrete revetment fabric will be provided for channel stabilization.

The Vicksburg Drive Pond is the fourth capital improvement project in the overall Placentia Drainage Improvements project. The Vicksburg Pond Project is proceeded by the Sunset Boulevard culvert replacement, the Savannah State University North and South Thompkins culvert replacements, and the Semken and Laroche culvert replacements for a total of 5 culvert upgrades along the Placentia Canal. Once Vicksburg Pond is completed, Stormwater Management plans on utilizing the remaining originally approved SPLOST VI funds to widen the canal adjacent to St. John Baptist Church and replace failed driveway culverts in the Brookview/Skidaway Terrace/Parkview neighborhood, which drain to the Placentia Canal. The bid was advertised, opened, and reviewed. Delivery: As needed. Terms: Net 30 days.
