Title
Motion to Procure Replacement Wheelchair Lift from Johnson-Laux Construction (Event No. 5467)
Description

Recommend approval to procure a replacement wheelchair lift for the Civic Center elevator from Johnson-Laux Construction in the amount of $39,094.15. The replacement wheelchair lift will be used by the Civic Center to maintain compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Arena is required to maintain an ADA compliant lift for access to designated seating on the arena floor. The current lift is inoperable and cannot be repaired.

Civic Center staff has recommended that the State of Georgia job order contractor be used for this replacement due to the limited number of suppliers of this specialized equipment and the urgent need to replace the existing lift. The State of Georgia’s job order contract is considered a convenience contract that is available for use by all State, City, and County public entities. The purpose of this contract is to provide multi-traded general construction services to accomplish small to medium sized projects for repair, alteration, modernization, rehabilitation, and minor new construction to infrastructure, buildings, structures, or other real property. The State of Georgia used a competitive bidding procedure to select Johnson-Laux Construction to serve as the sole provider of these services for this region.
