The Georgia Mutual Aid Act of 1988 provides for intergovernmental cooperation in the provision of extraterritorial police services and assistance in the event of a local emergency when approved by the respective local governing bodies. Mutual aid agreements provide reciprocal benefits should emergencies arise that require resources beyond the circumstantial capacity or availability of a particular jurisdiction. 

The City has negotiated mutual aid agreements with nine surrounding jurisdictions, and is in the process of negotiating several others. Recommend authorizing the City Manager to sign these mutual aid agreements utilizing the attached standard agreement form, which conforms with the Mutual Aid Act and all applicable State laws.
