Title
Motion to Procure Construction Services from Savannah Construction and Preservation (Event No. 5174)
Description

Recommend approval to award a contract for construction services to Savannah Construction and Preservation in the amount of $213,255.00.

The City of Savannah is in the process of repairing the Factors Walk wall and this project is a continuation of these efforts. This project is located in District 2, west of the Abercorn Ramp, near the River Street Inn. The wall section that will be repaired contains an outer wall section, which is not historic, and an inner wall section, which is the original historic wall. This project will remove the outer wall section and repair the historic wall. The repairs to the historic wall will include the installation of reinforced concrete columns inside the wall connected to a reinforced CMU infill wall. The wall face will be covered with brick and stone to match the adjacent wall sections. The contractor will use salvaged original brick and stone for the wall face and only use matching replacements when necessary. To provide additional support, the support rods that are in the outer wall will be cut back to the face of the historic wall. In addition the vault doors in the historic wall will be restored with infill brick to match the existing vault doors. When complete the project will meet the standards of the Historic District Section of (8-3030) of the City of Savannah Zoning Ordinance, the National Park Service preservation for Brief 2: Repointing of mortar joints in Historic Masonry Buildings, and the standards of the current edition of the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and Guidelines for Rehabilitation published by the U.S. Department of Interior.

The MWBE goal for this project was 20% (17% MBE, 3% WBE). The recommended bidder submitted participation in that amount of 100%. MBE participation will be in the amount of 17% using Economy Masonry. WBE participation will be in the amount of 83% using Savannah Construction and Preservation.
