Title
12. Motion to Authorize the City Manager to Procure 80 Portable Replacement Radios from Motorola Solutions in the Amount of $460,723.30 (Event No. 7367)
Strategic Priority
Public Safety
Description

Recommend approval to authorize the City Manager to procure 80 portable replacement radios from Motorola Solutions in the amount of $460,723.30. The Savannah Fire Rescue Department (SFRD) currently uses the Motorola XTS 5000 series and APX 6000 XE B2 Series portable radios as their primary means of communication. This is a FY2020 scheduled replacement of SFRD radios.  The replaced first generation radios will be repurposed and issued to other citywide departments, for an extended useful life of five to fifteen years.

The City and County jointly operate a Motorola Astro 25 Digital Simulcast Radio Network to support all government operations throughout Chatham County and Savannah. The Motorola APX 6000 portable radio provides vendor specific functions which allow accurate and real-time location of the portable radio through background processes running on the Astro 25 radio network.

A sole source procurement is needed because Motorola Solutions is the sole manufacturer of the Astro 25 line of radio equipment and software, which is required in order to effectively access specific features associated with the Motorola Astro 25 radio network.
