Title
16. Authorize the City Manager to Execute an Agreement for the Extension of City Sewer Main with BAPS Savannah, LLC in the Amount of $179,395 (Event No. 8031)
Strategic Priority
Infrastructure
Description

Recommend approval of an agreement to extend the City’s sewer main at the back of BAPS Hindu Temple eastward to, and along property frontage at Canebrake Road.  The agreement will be with the temple’s developer, BAPS Savannah, LLC in amount of $179,395.

The developer is currently constructing a new gymnasium on BAPS property located at 355 Canebrake Road. While this site is being developed, it will be advantageous for the City to task the developer to extend the sewer main along the perimeter of the BAPS property.  This will allow for future extension of gravity sewer service approximately 2000 feet along Canebrake Road to serve future developments for the City.

In the agreement, BAPS will provide easements to the City for the sewer line from the back of their property to the front, and easement along the frontage. The entire 923-foot length of gravity sewer will be approximately 9-feet deeper, and an additional 263 feet of this gravity main is being built to serve future development areas (not BAPS Property).

This is the best opportunity for the City to access deeper sewer lines while the construction project is active.  Once the development is complete, the City will only have access to shallower sewer lines in this area that will hinder future development. Doing this now will save the City approximately $40,000 in construction costs as opposed to contracting for this work at a later date.
