20. Authorize the City Manager to Execute a Contract for the Renovation of the Existing Facility at 8 Interchange Court with Johnson-Laux (Local, DBE-owned) in the Amount of $1,247,356. Facility will be Occupied by Fleet Services (City Lot Location). Renovations will Include Flooring, Lighting, Ceiling Tile & HVAC Replacement along with Upgrades for Security Access, Bays and Overhead Doors, etc.

Description

Recommend approval to award a construction contract for the renovation of Fleet Services proposed facility at 8 Interchange Court to Johnson–Laux Construction(A) in the amount of $1,247,355.95.

The City of Savannah owns the facility located at 8 Interchange Court, which presently houses Greenscapes. The planned renovation will consist of upgrading the existing restrooms, adjusting the existing floor plan to accommodate the needs of Fleet Services, removal and replacement of all flooring, repainting the walls, replacing ceiling tile, upgrading the HVAC system, upgrading the security access to all exterior doors, replacing the existing lights with LED lights, upgrading the overhead doors in the maintenance bay to accommodate larger vehicles, and upgrading the bays themselves to meet the needs of Fleet Services. Existing maintenance equipment will be relocated from City Lot to the new facility and any equipment that cannot be transferred will be replaced. 

The State of Georgia’s job order contract will be used to perform this project to meet time constraints and City ordinance requirements. The State of Georgia’s job order contract is considered a convenience contract that is available for use by all State, City, and County public entities. The purpose of this contract is to provide multi-traded general construction services to accomplish small to medium-sized projects for repair, alteration, modernization, rehabilitation, renovation, and minor new construction to infrastructure, buildings, structures, or other real property. The State of Georgia used a competitive bidding procedure to select contractors to serve as the provider of these services for this project.

The State contractor, Johnson-Laux Construction, LLC has committed to meet the 20% DBE goal, including a 10% LDBE goal set for this project.
