Title
Motion to Waive Unreceived Insurance Premiums Due by the Chatham-Savannah Authority for the Homeless (CSAH)
Description

The Chatham-Savannah Authority for the Homeless is an Authority created by the State Legislature to encourage participation from and unite various levels of government and community agencies to provide central planning for homeless services, including developing and implementing a communitywide Comprehensive Plan to Address Homelessness.

Through 2012, employees of the Homeless Authority participated in the City's health benefits plan, and the Authority contributed premiums for those employees. In 2011 and 2012 the Homeless Authority experienced significant financial difficulties, which in part led to unpaid health care premiums to the City of Savannah for CSAH employees during FY 2011 and FY 2012 totaling $149,592.20. This outstanding balance remains, and the Authority has requested that this debt be waived.

Providing this debt relief will support critically needed affordable housing for homeless persons within the City of Savannah, which is consistent with the City’s desire to provide the citizens of Savannah with a community where the needs of homeless individuals and families are met in their transition to stable housing.
