August 1, 2019 City Council Regular Meeting
Title
25. Motion to Amend the Code of Ordinance of the City of Savannah, Part 7-1091, Appendix I, Section 219. Stopping, standing and parking prohibited.
Strategic Priority
Public Safety
Description

The Traffic Engineering Department has reviewed the conditions along Purse Street based on a concern expressed by Garrison School for the Arts of on-street parking impacting two-way travel and emergency vehicle access.

The Traffic Engineering Department recommends that parking be prohibited on the east side of Purse Street from Jones Street to Berrien Street. Vehicles currently are allowed to park on both east and west sides of the roadway, reducing the available travel lanes to a single 8 foot lane. Emergency vehicles require a minimum of 20 feet of unrestricted travel as per state law and international fire code as adopted by city ordinance.

Purse Street is located in the Kayton-Frazier Neighborhood, bounded by Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to the East, May Street and I-16 to the west, West Jones Street to the north and West Anderson Street to the south.
