Title
39. Motion to Procure One Backhoe from Flint Equipment Company (Event No. 7034)
Strategic Priority
Good Government
Description

Recommend approval to procure one backhoe from Flint Equipment Company in the amount of $82,216.50.  This purchase is being made under contract #032515-JDC listed on the Sourcewell purchasing cooperative, formerly known as National Joint Powers Alliance, a purchasing cooperative in which the City of Savannah is a member.  Flint Equipment Company, is the contracted vendor and has provided this type of specialty equipment to meet the needs of member agencies at a rate less than fair market value.  The replacement backhoe will replace a unit that has reached the end of its useful life and is no longer economical to repair. The City Cemeteries Division will use the backhoe for daily operations in the cemeteries.

Procurement of the unit was put out to bid; however, staff determined that the Sourcewell contract was more beneficial, as it offered better equipment at a more affordable price.  Therefore, as a member of Sourcewell and per Section 2-4154 of the City’s Purchasing Ordinance, staff worked with the contracted vendor to obtain a quote to manufacture the equipment.
