Title
23. Motion to Accept the Withdrawal to Rezone 436 West DeRenne Drive from R-4 to B-H (Petitioner: Jay Maupin for Michael Godbee)
Strategic Priority
Good Government
Description

On March 26, 2019, the applicant made a request to withdraw the application.

Jay Maupin as agent for Michael Godbee (File No. 19-00878-ZA) is requesting approval to rezone 436 West DeRenne Drive from R-4 (Four-Family Residential) to B-H (Highway Business) in order to construct a self-storage facility.

While the parcels subject to this rezoning request are immediately adjacent to B-H-zoned parcels to the east, the rezoning, if granted, would extend the intense commercial zoning further into a residential area.  This portion of DeRenne Drive has limited access from major thoroughfares and is not paved, which would preclude development of many of the permitted B-H uses.  While the petitioner has provided a concept General Development Plan showing a self-storage facility, if rezoned, any of the permitted B-H uses would be allowed.  The requested B-H Zoning District is not consistent with the Future Land Use designation of Residential - Suburban Single Family and is incompatible with residential uses and zoning to the west and south.

On March 12, 2019, the Planning Commission voted to recommend denial of the requested rezoning.
